Cherry Soin

Our story so far...
What was the first thing you noticed about your partner? Both!

Cherry: How tall he is /// Kunal: How smoll she is

How did you come with with the name Cheku? Cherry:

We were brainstorming a couple name with all the Massis but the credit will have to go to Tinni Massi for coming up with the nickname "Cheeku" (Indian fruit).

What do you enjoy doing together? Kunal:

Movies (Cherry can only watch bollywood though), eating sushi bowls (never had them before I met her and can't live without them now!) and brunch. Took us a while to get to brunch actually, we would both always sleep in and by the time we would meet, most cafe's would be closed šŸ™

How did you know that your partner was the one for you? Cherry:

The way we knew we were right for each other was because of how comfortable we felt in each other company from the very first date. Not only are we great friends but we are both highly emotional and it helps that the other person truly gets how that feels in a relationship.

What's the most ridiculous thing you've ever argued about? Kunal:

We actually had an argument about who cared more about the other person. Eventually I pointed it out and we ended up laughing about it because we realised how nonsensical the argument was.

How do you make each other laugh? Both!

Cherry - Kunal makes me laugh by dancing if Iā€™m ever upset. Instant mood uplift. /// Kunal ā€“ Every now and then Cherry tries to barge into me thinking we are the same size and she will somehow make an impact. Alas for her, we ain't.

Can you share a story about how your families have come together? Cherry:

Kunal and I had already met in Melbourne but our parents hadnā€™t met yet. Being a brown couple, this brought about a lot of questions about what was going on and whether we had plans for anything serious. To resolve this, we organised for our parents to casually meet for the first time in Melbourne. But in doing so much planning and preparation leading up to this meeting (trust us it was tough to get two families to be free at the same time to travel for a ā€œcasual meetā€), we ended up getting a lot more serious about each other as we realised how good we were with each otherā€™s families as well. Unsurprisingly by the first night there were talks of marriage and come the second day we were Rokaā€™d (had a marriage date set). This was all fun and games until Kunal and I were sitting there realising we had pretty much just gotten engaged and this was it! Took a few months to sink in though.

How as one of your friends impacted your relationship? Cherry:

The first date was going really well and when my friend messaged and asked me to come see her, I didnā€™t want to end the date but also wanted to see my friend Steff. So a hasty decision was made to introduce Kunal to her on the first date. Seeing Kunal getting along so well with my friend was a very big green flag. Steph has pretty much been our favourite third wheel since then.

What's the funniest thing that has happened on one of your dates? Cherry:

Kunal tried to teach me how to do debits and credits on the first date even though I am a CA and he is an engineer. (edit, Kunal: Maybe lil Ms. Franking Credits should ask why I had to resort to teaching her this)

What are your future plans together? Kunal:

In the near future we want to buy a house and live overseas for a bit whilst still working and young. In the long run, we want to find a balance between careers and personal lives that will allow us to keep progressing.

Time for you to join this story with us in Delhi!
